I was told by my brother about this bug , when i found these photos in my folder. He discovered this creature in our house after a two day long rain fury. though he clicked the insect, he could not find the name of it. we googled a lot and finally were able to manage to get the name.
Yes it is an EARWIG. Wikipedia states that they are abundant all over the world and come in as much as 1800 varieties. they belong to Dermaptera insect order and are considered as harmless to humans and animals.
Due to their scorpion kind of look, there is an urban legend that, they crawl into the ear and reach the human brain to lay eggs and flourish. But it is totally baseless as any creature cant survive in a dark damp(like our ears!) place for a longer time .
Lizards, birds prey on these arthropods and earwigs munch on fresh leaves, foliage and foliage destroyer weeds. hence there is a big debate to consider these bugs as crop protector or eater...
My brother posted these photos on facebook and started a quiz to guess the name. so far people are considering it as a scorpion!

Rashmi, I strongly suspect if this creature can really make its way to human brain and reproduce. If at all it makes there, would the human be alive for the eggs to hatch?
off course it is a myth..!
This creature might not be troublesome or poisonous. it might have crept in the Rainy season.
