It was a beautiful evening and we were about to watch a play called urban turban by chennai based evam art repertory at alliance francaise. As i have not watched thier plays so far i decided to watch urban turban.
There were many couples giggling, holding hands, and two or three lost souls like me here and there.i could see a large red silk turban and a big moustache placed on a table.
We rushed in the auditorium as it was already 3:15 pm, ah nice set i thought and bang there came a man dressed in black suit with African hair who made us laugh with his usa/african/ malleswaram accent.
But i personally liked karthik sreenivasan's piece, because i felt somewhere i could familiarise with the content. he held the audience spell bound as he delivered his lines with great panache and ease. His south Indian tamil accent was noteworthy so was the content of the piece. audience just could not control laughter when he described his single status, groom scanning eyes of tamil brahmin mamis, and mamas who borrow often the hindu paper and coffee, arranged marriage, jungle green shorts and white shirt with a monster on his back(school uniform)coffee v/s scotch and lots more. shannon's act followed as she went on describing her experiences in india. A canadian by birth who came along with her husband to chennai. i just admired her crystal clear voice and there was honesty and loads of witty one liners in the piece.
Last piece was performed by karthik kumar which was quiet funny especially about chinease that how they have ample time to cross different species and his description about pug, saving tigers, how we thought about turning crocodiles into handbags, birds and beasts, cake and oven were just hilarious.
The play was of a stand up comedy style and there were moments of ' hmm ok ' during shannon's piece as i felt it was little long and could have been made little tighter.

I also happened to watch this show. It is great indeed. It is fun to make fun of our own selves and people first hand, nothing to borrow. But people fail to make fun in the name of other communities. We the people should welcome an intellectual helplessness or things which happen surrounding him at his vicinity.
